![]() ![]() CHIP FOOSE OVERHAULIN SERIESNo worries, because the Superformance take on the Shelby Daytona Coupe came to the attention of one Chip Foose – the one and only American automobile designer, artist, and star of reality television series Overhaulin’. There’s just one thing – can you imagine a proper lady driving around in such a vehicle? Originally dressed up in a very subtle gray shade and thoroughly raced by Doug Campbell from Superformance, it became a fitting present for his wife Marissa. Well, this here is a 2005 Brock Coupe with a twist. There were also significant aftermarket efforts, and chief among them is the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe (also called the Brock Coupe, after designer Peter Brock, who also styled the original racers), which is the only licensed continuation model. ![]() Abandoning the lineage of the car doesn’t make sense to us.Naturally, with such historic significance came also the prospect of building a modern business around it – note the Shelby American continuation Daytonas from 2015 (honoring the 50th anniversary of the WSC title) or the Ford Shelby GR-1. Pulling pieces back in from Corvettes of the past only seems natural. Of course, it will have some things people don’t like, but we feel like it could be a vast improvement over the current design. Another car he uses for inspiration is the beloved C2 Corvette built from 1963-67, and its styles are noticeable in the body with a straight bodyline and with the rounded rear fenders.Įven though Foose was only able to produce a “rough sketch” for his version of the C8, we love the direction. As Foose starts to work on the rendering, he talks about incorporating elements from the C7 like new side air vents, headlights, and taillights. The wheelbase is the same, and nothing is severely changed other than the body lines and angles. One thing we like about this concept is Foose kept the outline of the C8 the same meaning, GM could have built the car. It seems that Foose agrees with us on this topic, too, as he integrates features of past Corvettes into his rendering. ![]() So why didn’t Chevrolet use the same recipe for the C8? We don’t know, but we think they should have. While the redesigned Camaro came out of the gate running in 2010, sales have dwindled as the company abandoned the design by adding new elements that have had enthusiasts scratching their heads. These cars have been successful, especially for Mopar and Ford. Chevrolet, Ford, and Mopar all paid homage to their classic lineup with vintage elements incorporated throughout. If it’s one thing that saved the pony cars over the last ten years, it was the design. Lucky for us, Foose gives us a rendering of how the car might have looked if previous Corvette elements were introduced into the latest Corvette. Instead of just building a mid-engine car, Foose wonders why Chevrolet didn’t incorporate some of the car’s previous elements into the design, and we’re wondering the same thing. No matter how you feel about Foose’s style, you have to agree that his thought process on the redesign of the C8 is on the money. However, Foose is always messing with cars and changing things, and like any artist, everyone’s a critic. And we have to admit we love his thought process behind the redesign of this iconic sports car.įoose states that he’s not sure if he likes GM’s latest version of the Corvette yet, and if the rendering god doesn’t know by now, we’re guessing that he doesn’t. In this video by Hagerty, Foose shows us what he would have done if he were on the C8 Corvette design team. ![]() CHIP FOOSE OVERHAULIN TVAnd while not everyone likes the new Corvette style, everyone loves the performance, including the Overhalin’ TV star Chip Foose. The C8 Corvette has had some mixed reviews from critics and enthusiasts alike. ![]()
